Sri Vasudeva Prepares Us for
Living the Way of The Enlightened
40 Days Retreat, 2018
Namaskar Dear Friends,
Sri Vasudeva has offered us guidance on how we may best prepare for the coming 40 Days Retreat: Living the Way of The Enlightened. We are sharing Guruji’s timely and timeless inspiration in a series of articles from our Blue Star Canada and Trinidad writers, beginning with this in-depth read on the value and means of setting intentions.
"The 40 Days of 1978 were magical days. Throughout these 40 Days, I will bring back those experiences to you. I remember them with great respect, great love and great honour to the Masters. I walk the path of the Masters. My goal is to be worthy of their precious footsteps that I too can be a channel of the Supreme Guru and to create spaces of light and to liberate souls who are born just for that."
- SRI VASUDEVA
Set Your Intentions
Intentions are a powerful tool to help bring us into sacred alignment. Guruji teaches us that "When you understand the power of intention, the power of thought and emotion, you can sit in an isolated space and you can impact your Universe, as many great Beings have done."
That isolated space can also be the space between thoughts, and the ability to find it is a powerful life-tool amidst the bustle of day-to-day living. Touching that space every day in meditation proves to have a most powerful, life-affirming impact on every part of our being. This is the practice that is carried throughout this retreat, and regardless of any challenge you may be facing in your life, starting this retreat with an intention sets your path toward that lasting shift in consciousness you seek.
When we search within our hearts for what kind of person we would like to be, it is often clear to us what we wish. We then pray for guidance and inspiration, but will that be enough? Not without setting intentions, which are not just about wishing for some future outcome, but rather bringing awareness to what we specifically wish to manifest in the here and now: “I am opening myself to the possibility of XYZ, to aligning and co-creating XYZ with the Universe.”
How do we start this process? Your intention need not be elaborate.
"When you create an intention during these 40 Days it needs to be an intention that lifts you, that takes you to another level." ~ Sri Vasudeva
So try asking yourself the following:
Are my intentions aligned with the Divine Will?
What is my greater purpose?
Are my intentions aligned to my greater purpose, to what I came on this earth plane for?
The answers can be observed in the things that repeatedly challenge you, the things that uplift you, the things that surround you: all these give clues as to why you are here. Begin by taking a sober look within. Hold your curiosity open and let yourself do a kind of decoding or deciphering. Your life’s hidden intentions will reveal themselves to you in its patterns.
"I know that if you create the right intentions, they will be fulfilled for you. And even if you don't create the right intentions, the wisdom will come to change them to the right intentions." ~Sri Vasudeva
These intentions will be challenging, be for your greater good, and be aligned with the Universe. You will know this is part of your higher purpose if deep inside of you when you are challenged, you feel a power to overcome: "No, no, I need to overcome this. I am not going to stop there. I am not going to let this disturb or unsettle me. I am going to get over this.” A great surge of energy comes up inside of you to want to overcome. When that is strong within your inner being, then that is aligned to a higher purpose.
“Let these intentions be aligned to your higher purpose. Let these intentions be those that will uplift you,” says Sri Vasudeva, but, moreover, “let your intentions also involve the space, community or the environment around you. Think about this: there are so many agents around that impact you, so many instruments of the Divine and if you can see your purpose connected with the purpose of those around you, then that is an intelligent way of looking at your space." ~ Sri Vasudeva
Of course, the ashram is a space that is held in the presence of the Master. In addition, the group energy makes it truly special, because you are with a specific group of people all focused on the same journey together; one that is carried by the Masters.
But wherever you are during this 40 Days, look to see how you can use the space around you to support your intention. The space around you includes your physical environment, the people that are present, the images you surround yourself with, the music you listen to. These collectively support your daily experience.
Ask, then: what is my connection with the space around me? How can it support my intention?
And if you want to develop certain qualities or change certain qualities within yourself, then you need to think: how can the space around me help to support that? How can I co-create these same qualities not just in me but in the space around me?
As Sri Vasudeva recollects: "During those days in 1978 the space around me was a perfect space and it involved many people who may not have had a personal intention but just to serve the greater purpose. They just wanted to be around me to ensure that I was okay, not understanding what was happening to me. They would have thought that praying in that space and keeping it sacred would have been important to me. That was perhaps their great intention. But out of that they would have gained a lot from the process. "
In this article we have shared much from Sri Vasudeva’s store of guidance on setting intentions to make the most of this retreat. Let’s recap:
How to Make the Most of this Retreat
Thoughts carry energy and create our reality. Begin with your thoughts. Setting an intention can help to line up your thoughts toward a particular experience.
Align to life purpose. Our life purpose meets us right where we are. It is not something 'out there' that we must find. It is in our every-day challenges and inspirations. Journal your daily challenges and inspirations. Begin to map out the patterns that reveal themselves to you.
Set the space. Look at the spaces where you spend the most time: do they really reflect your intention? Do you feel your intention is held in that space? Begin to create the atmosphere around you as if that intention is already true and has already taken form.
